Durgapur (West Bengal): Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated multiple development projects in Durgapur, which he described as a major hub of both steel production and skilled labour.

“In Durgapur, projects worth ₹5,400 crore have been launched. These will strengthen connectivity infrastructure and generate employment. Under the vision of ‘Make in India, Make for the World’, West Bengal will move forward,” he said, congratulating the people on the new initiatives.

Highlighting India's growing global recognition, PM Modi said infrastructure is central to the vision of a transformed and self-reliant India.

“Today, discussions around a rising and developing India are taking place across the world. From housing for 4 crore poor families, new roads and expressways, piped water to homes, to domestic airports and internet connectivity reaching remote villages — all of it is happening at a fast pace,” he said.

He noted that the railways have seen unprecedented upgrades in the region, with the introduction of multiple Vande Bharat trains, modern railway stations, overbridges and rail network expansion.

“Our airports are being integrated with the UDAN scheme to boost regional connectivity,” he added.

Stressing on how infrastructure development fuels economic growth across sectors, he said, “As infrastructure improves, those producing raw materials also see their income rise.”

The Prime Minister also pointed out that India’s gas connectivity has seen historic progress in the past 11 years.

“The nation is working on the ‘One Nation, One Gas Grid’ model. Gas pipeline work is ongoing in six states across eastern India.”

With the inclusion of Durgapur in the National Gas Grid, he said, gas connections will now reach 25 to 30 lakh households.

“There is rapid work happening across the country. To make India a developed nation by 2047, we must become fully self-reliant,” PM Modi said.
