PM Modi addresses UN General Assembly
Modi sent out a strong message to Pakistan and said the nation will like to engage in a serious bilateral dialogue with the neighbouring country, but in a peaceful atmosphere.
"Our future is linked very closely with our neighbours. That is why from first day we extended hand of friendship to our neighbours," Modi said at the UN general Assembly.
"It is also upto Pakistan to create the right atmosphere and come forward for bilateral talks," Modi said.
Modi made the remarks a day after Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said India has "missed oppurtunity" to address outstanding issues after it cancelled the Foreign Secretary-level talks between the two nations last month.
Sharif said the core issue of Jammu and Kashmir has to be resolved.
The Indian PM said the world need to give full strength to UN Peacekeeping.
"Why is it that despite having a wonderful platform like UN we have had to have the various G platforms," Modi said.
Addressing world leaders at the UNGA for the first time as the PM of the world's largest democracy, Modi said: " Why can't we have a G-All group."
He asked all nations to work together and create a peaceful atmosphere across the globe.
He said terrorism has changed its form over the years.
"Terrorism is appearing in new forms and and no nation is free from it," he said.
"In very important spheres we are seeing new tensions," he said.
Referring to numerous issues, he also highlighted the unavailability of electricity and sanitation to numerous people across the world.
"Basic sanitation is not available to millions of people. Nor is electricity and drinking water available," he said.
Speaking on the role of UN and global cooperation, Modi said: "We will turn 70 next year. We have to ask ourselves- do we wait till we turn 80? No. The next year can be an opportunity."
He even highlighted the importance of 'yoga' to global leaders and pitched the idea of observing 'International Yoga Day' in future.
"Let us think about an International Yoga Day," he said.
Representing himself as the leader of India's 1.25 billion people, Modi, who delivered his speech in Hindi, said: "Every nation has their own philosophy. I am not talking about ideology.This philosophy guides the nation.India's is Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam."
