PM Modi calls Donald Trump's visit to India with family 'path-breaking'

New Delhi/IBNS: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday thanked US President Donald Trump and First Lasy Melania Trump for coming to India and called the visit a path-breaking one.

He said the visit strengthened the India-US friendship further.

In his message to Trump, Modi said: "Thank you @POTUS @realDonaldTrump
and @FLOTUS @MELANIATRUMP for coming to India. This visit has been a path-breaking one. We have covered great ground as far as strengthening bilateral relations are concerned. India-USA friendship benefits the people of our nations and the world."

He said he was happy to host Trump and his family to different cultures of India.

"I am delighted that @POTUS @realDonaldTrump  and @FLOTUS
@MELANIATRUMP saw different aspects of Indian culture and hospitality. The people of India welcomed them with immense warmth," he wrote.

PM Modi also thanked President Trump's daughter Ivanka for visiting the country with her husband Jared Kushner.

"India is happy to have hosted Jared and you. Your liking towards India is clearly visible. My best wishes to you in your endeavours to further empowerment and enterprise among women. Hoping to see you both back in India soon," he tweeted.

Trump arrived in India on Monday for his two-day visit to the south Asian nation.

On Tuesday he and Melania were given the ceremonial welcome at the Rashtrapati Bhavan here.

Trump held talks with PM Modi and later in the evening he and Melania were hosted for dinner banquet at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

He attended the Namaste Trump event in Ahmedabad city of Gujarat which was attended by over one lakh people.

Trump also visited Taj Mahal and Sabarmati Ashram during his trip to India.

This was his first visit to India since being elected as the President of the USA.
