PM Modi to inaugurate 12th SAG in Guwahati tomorrow

Guwahati, Feb 4 (IBNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the 12th South Asian Games (SAG) in Guwahati on Friday.
The mega sporting event will be held in Guwahati and Shillong from February 5-11.
 
Around 3000 athletes from the eight participating countries including India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Maldives, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bhutan and Afghanistan had arrived in Guwahati and Shillong.
 
The organizing committee of the mega sporting event said that cultural troops will perform cultural events of North Eastern region and Pan India in the inaugural function to be held at Indira Gandhi Athletics Stadium in Sarusajai.
 
“Rich culture of North Eastern region will be showcased in the mega event,” an official of the organizing committee said.
 
On the other hand, Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi had instructed all the State Government officials to leave no stone unturned for the making the 12th  South Asian Games a success.
 
“Though the Organising Committee of the Games should take care of all issues, I being the Chief Minister of the State take the responsibility and direct all government officials engaged in the Games to be on their toes to make the Sought Asian Games a smooth and hassle free affair,” Gogoi said.
 
Gogoi’s direction came close on the heels of the reported news item on a section of media that no official was there at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Air Port to receive the foreign players.
 
Gogoi also said that instructions were also given not to repeat such shortcomings later.
 
Moreover, the Assam CM also directed all the departments to showcase the rich cultural heritage of Assam along with its handicrafts, tourism potentials and refreshing beauty.
 
Besides, instructions were also given to take care of all logistical issues, transportation, communication, accommodation etc. Necessary directions were also given to Transport Department, PWD, Health, PHE, to take care of 4400 sports persons who will be converging in Guwahati for the games.
 
Gogoi also appealed to the people of Assam to warmly receive the sportspersons and administrators who will be coming from eight countries to spread camaraderie and forge friendly relations so that on their way back to their respective countries.
