PM Modi to visit Odisha, West Bengal tomorrow to assess cyclone Yaas impact
New Delhi/IBNS: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will on Friday visit Odisha and West Bengal, which have been hit by cyclone Yaas, to assess the damage caused by the calamity.
Modi will first undertake an aerial survey of the affected areas at Balasore and Bhadrak in Odisha.
He will hold a review meeting in Bhubaneswar.
Later, the Prime Minister will fly to West Bengal's Purba Medinipur district which is hugely affected by the cyclone.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who is also scheduled to review the ground situation on Friday, said she will meet the Prime Minister at Kalaikunda for a 15-minute review meeting.
Yaas made the landfall between north of Dhamra coast in Odisha's Bhadrak district and Bahanga coast in the state's Balasore district at around 10:30 am on Wednesday.
The cyclone continued for almost three hours at an estimated speed of 130-155 km/hr.
Yaas along with strong winds and heavy tides lashed several coastal areas of Odisha and West Bengal, killing at least four people and leading all parts to get inundated.
About 21 lakh people have been evacuated in Odisha, West Bengal and also in Jharkhand, which also bore the effect of the cyclone.
The West Bengal Chief Minister on Thursday allocated Rs. 1,000 crore for an immediate relief to the affected people and has also formed a task force under the leadership of the Chief Secretary.
