PM Modi, WB CM Mamata Banerjee wish Chandrababu Naidu on birthday

New Delhi, Apr 20 (IBNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee greeted Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on the occasion of his birthday on Friday.

Naidu, a veteran politician and the Telegu Desam Party (TDP) chief, turned 68 on Friday.

Wishing Naidu, Modi tweeted, "Birthday wishes to Andhra Pradesh CM N Chandrababu Naidu Garu. I pray for his long and healthy life. @ncbn"

Mamata tweeted, "Wishing N Chandrababu Naidu @ncbn Ji a very happy birthday"

Naidu became the Andhra Pradesh CM for the first time in 1995 and ruled the state for nine years.

In 2014, he returned to his office once again, becoming the 13th CM of the state.

However, Naidu is spending his birthday by fasting over the issue of special status for Andhra Pradesh.

Naidu's Telegu Desam party (TDP) has been in conflict with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led central government for sometime now over the special status issue.

Following the Union budget 2018, the TDP vented anger against the Centre for not granting a special status to Andhra Pradesh.

According to the instructions given by Naidu, the TDP had both withdrawn its ministers and support from the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), which runs the central government.

Naidu will continue his fast till 7 pm. He is joined by several other ministers and sitting MLAs.

He began his fast after paying tribute to Dr. BR Ambedkar, who was the principal framer of the Indian constitution.
