PM, Prez pay tributes to Saint Guru Ravidas on his birth anniversary

New Delhi, Feb 22 (IBNS) President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday paid their tributes to Bhakti Saint Guru Ravidas on his birth anniversary.

President Mukherjee said, "Greetings and good wishes to all my fellow countrymen on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Guru Ravidasji."

Hailing the mystic poet as an embodiment of wisdom, he said, "Guru Ravidasji was an embodiment of spiritual wisdom."

In a time when India is facing agitation due to caste issues, the President urged the citizens to take lessons from Guru Ravidas' life.

He said, "Let us recall Guru Ravidasji’s ceaseless struggle for a casteless society & derive inspiration from his life & teachings."

"May teachings of Guru Ravidasji inspire us all to strive to remove social inequalities & work towards progress of nation," he added.

He also said, "Guru Ravidasji led a life of faith and devotion and dedicated himself to the service of humanity."

The PM wrote on Twitter: "I bow to Guru Ravidas ji on his Jayanti.  His thoughts & emphasis on social reform & equality transformed our society & enriched it greatly."

Guru Ravidas was a mystic poet and a saint, who was active in the Bhakti era.
