Police arrest protester journalist in Guwahati

Guwahati, Feb 2 (IBNS) : Assam police on Monday arrested more than 50 journalists from different media houses of print and electronic media who protested against the alleged physical assault of a woman journalist by police officials in Guwahati.

Police arrested the journalists when they staged protest in front of Dispur capital secretariat.

"We have demanded to arrest the culprits who allegedly assaulted a woman journalist of a local electronic media at Latasil police station. But the state government did not take any action so far, " Pranay Bordoloi, Managing Editor of Dy-365, said.

Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said meanwhile:  "Tarun Gogoi led state government has totally failed to protect common people in Assam."

Several organisations including AASU, KMSS had protested against the state government action on journalists.

On the other hand, Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has ordered an Additional Chief Secretary level probe into the alleged woman journalist assaulted incident.
