Police arrested two persons in connection with Dholpur violence

Guwahati: The Assam Police CID branch have arrested two persons in connection with Dholpur violence in Assam’s Darrang district.

Two persons were killed in police firing and several others, including 11 police personnel, injured in the clash between protesters and police during an eviction drive conducted by the Darrang district administration at Dholpur area on Sept 23.

Confirming the report, Darrang district Superintendent of Police (SP) Sushanta Biswa Sarma said two persons have been arrested in connection with that incident.

The arrested persons were identified as Md. Asmat Ali Ahmed (37 years) of Kirakara village under Sipajhar police station and Md. Fazal Ali (47 years) of 3 no Dholpur village under Sipajhar police station.

Following the incident a case (no 758/2021) was registered at Sipajhar police station under Section 120(B)/143/147/148/149/341/333/353/325/326/307 of IPC.

Earlier, Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said that, the Assam police have the name of six persons who involved in the incident.
