Political vendetta against me, Lalu Prasad after CBI registers case for tender irregularities
The CBI has filed a case against Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief and former Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, his wife Rabri Devi and their son Tejashwi Yadav, the deputy chief minister of Bihar.
The CBI has also booked the former managing director of Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) and other private firms directors over tender irregularities.
Holding responsible Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the latest development, Lalu brought an unsparing attack on PM Modi and said: "No person can become successful with the kind of pride which he (Modi) has. Lalu Yadav will oust Modi from power."
However, Lalu also said he will reach out to CBI and fully cooperate with them, whenever summoned.
The central agency also raided 12 locations across Patna, Ranchi, Gurgaon, Delhi and Puri in connection with the case.
Lalu Prasad served as the Railway Minister from 2004-2009 in the UPA cabinet headed by Manmohan Singh.
The CBI officers are trying to comprehend how he managed to reverse a loss making Indian Railways into a profitable venture.
The Union minister Venkaiah Naidu rubbished all accusations brought against the prime minister and the Bharatiya Janata Party government at the Centre by the former Railway minister. "I cannot understand how BJP government is involved into this. The cases against Lalu Prasad were not done by us but they are from earlier days" he said.
"It has become a fashion to accuse BJP government whatever happens. All these shows that they are trying to cover up their faults" he added.
The repeated allegations against Lalu Prasad raised question whether Nitish Kumar would be able to run the Bihar government with the alliance partner RJD. The grand alliance of Nitish's JD(U), Lalu's RJD and Congress was voted to power in the last assembly election.
In this context, Union minister Ram Vilas Paswan said: "Nitish will have to take a call in this matter."
Earlier, Lalu Prasad has served jail time after being found guilty in the fodder scam.
