Portion of dilapidated building collapses in Kolkata, 1 hurt

Kolkata, Sep 5 (IBNS): At least one person was seriously injured as a portion of an old building collapsed near Beadon Street in north Kolkata on Wednesday afternoon, reports said.

According to reports, the only iron made staircase of a three-storey building at Jadu Pandit Road area suddenly collapsed at around 12:30 pm, leaving at least one person injured.

Local police and fire and emergency services officials rushed to the scene and after being rescued the injured man was sent to R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital for treatment.

Police said that two elderly persons were trapped on the second floor of the building.

They were rescued safely later, police said.

Officials of Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) said the building had already been marked as 'hazardous'.
