New Delhi/IBNS: Political strategist Prashant Kishor has questioned the 21-day-lockdown to fight the spread of coronavirus in the country arguing that the move does not have scientific backing.

Taking to his twitter handle, Kishor said the 21-day-lockdown was too long a time and added that there is no scientific proof that in the absence of adequate testing, isolation & treatment measures” the step would arrest the spread of the contagion.

He raised doubts about the authorities' preparedness to deal with the COVID-19 crisis as “shaky” and said a badly executed lockdown could destroy lives destroy life & livelihood of millions.

To stop the spread of the pandemic, India has placed the entire country under a stringent lockdown amid cases of coronavirus emerging and claiming lives.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a national address on Tuesday (March 24) announced a 21-day lockdown warning all against venturing out and inviting the virus to home.

According to worldometers.info, India has till Wednesday morning 562 positive cases with 10 lives lost to the virus.

There are 434,595 coronavirus cases worldwide now with 19,603 people succumbing to the virus, according to worldometers.info. A total of  111,853 people have recovered.
