Presidency students support JU protest
Their protest march started from Presidency campus. Their destination was the headquarter of Kolkata police at Lalbazar.
But police stopped the march at Phears Lane and B. B. Ganguly Street crossing, more than 200 meters away from Lalbazar.
In a press conference on Thursday, Commissioner of Kolkata police, Surajit Kar Purakayastha pointed out at some students of Presidency in the movement of JU. He also labeled them as 'outsiders with dangerous arms'. From this procession, Presidency students also protested intensely against it.
Some representatives from the protest march went to Lalbazar police headquarter and submitted deputation.
West Bengal Governor Keshrinath Tripathi called the Commissioner of Kolkata Police Surajit Kar Purakayastha on Wednesday evening to discuss on JU matter.
On other side, JU students told that they will continue their protest movement until the vice-chancellor, pro vice-chancellor and registrar resign.
They have called a protest march on Saturday from Rabindra Sadan area to Rajbhaban which will start at 2pm. After the procession, representatives will meet the governor.
Governor Keshrinath Tripathi has given them an appointment at 5pm on Saturday.
From Friday morning, JU students started demonstration in front of Arabinda Bhawan, the administrative center of Jadavpur University.
When pro vice-chancellor Sidhharth Dutta and registrar Prabir Ghosh came to their office, the protesters prevented them to enter. At 4:30pm, after a long time discussion, the students gave them access into the office.
To protest against the cruel behaviour of university authority, the head of the department of Philosophy, Soumitra Basu has submitted his resignation letter to the pro vice-chancellor on Friday.
