Presidency University VC under gherao for more than 24 hours
West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday went to the university to participate in a programme when few students had showed her black flag.
Protesting against Banerjee's visit to the university and demanding resignation of the VC, students gheraoed Anuradha Lohia from 2 pm. on Friday.
Students said they will not call off their gherao until the VC resigns.
Meanwhile, the convocation programme of the university is going to be held on Saturday from 4 pm.
However, VC Anuradha Lohia told IBNS: "I am not going to resign as I did not call the police. The police came to provide security to Mamata Banerjee. If few students were engaged in a scuffle with the police then it was completely their matter. There is no logic in their demands."
"Our convocation programme will be organized as per schedule. I will try to be there. I am not feeling well now," she added.
Doctors from Calcutta Medical College and Hospital checked Lohia.
One doctor told IBNS: "Her blood pressure is going low. We advised her to take admission in hospital."
But Anuradha Lohia denied to go to hospital.
Supporting VC Anuradha Lohia, few students have come to Lohia's room.
"There is no logic to this movement. Lohia mam is a very good administrator. We are with her," one of them told IBNS.
Meanwhile, supporting the movement, the Students Federation of India (SFI) and condemning the student's protest, Trinamool Chatra Parishad (TMCP) have called rallies on Saturday at College Square area in the city.
Huge police force have been deployed outside the university campus to avoid any unwanted situation.
