President Kovind appoints Narendra Modi as Prime Minister
New Delhi, May 25 (IBNS): President Ram Nath Kovind has appointed Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s parliamentary party leader Narendra Modi as the Prime Minister of the country.
Modi assumed the Prime Minister's office for the second straight term.
"Exercising powers vested in him under Article 75 (1) of the Constitution of India, President Kovind, today appointed @narendramodi to the office of Prime Minister of India," the President tweeted.

Earlier, the BJP's parliamentary party had appointed Modi as their leader.
"A letter stating that @narendramodi had been elected leader of the BJP Parliamentary Party was handed over to the President. Letters of support from NDA constituent parties were also handed over to the President," the President tweeted.

The BJP, under the leadership of Modi and party president Amit Shah, scripted a landslide victory in the Lok Sabha polls by winning 303 seats.
The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) got 352 seats.
Speaking at the BJP's parliamentary meet, Modi said on Saturday: "Indians and people who love India cherished the victory of India in the polls."
He said the huge mandate that has been given by the people on the NDA has increased the responsibility of MPs. "We will work with new energy," Modi said.
