Pulwama: Three militants killed, operation continues
Srinagar, Jun 7 (UNI) Three militants were killed by security forces in an encounter which ensued during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) on Thursday evening in south Kashmir district of Pulwama, official sources said on Friday.
Meanwhile, internet mobile service remained suspended in the district as a precautionary measure to prevent rumours.
Sources said a CASO was launched at Panjran Lassipora in Pulwama on Thursday evening by troops of Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police and CRPF following information about the presence of militants.
All the exit points were sealed and house to house searches launched, they said adding when the troops reached a particular house, militants opened fire with automatic weapons.
Security forces also retaliated killing a militant last night, they said adding intermittent firing continued in the area.
With the first light this morning all out operation was launched against the holed up militants, they said adding two more militants were killed.
Three bodies of militants were recovered, they said adding the operation was still going on when the reports last came. The identity of the militants was being ascertained.
Additional security forces and state police personnel remained deployed in the nearby areas to prevent demonstration.
