Ambala/UNI: The Punjab police banned the entry of private vehicles into Punjab area at the Shambhu check barrier on Punjab-Haryana border on Thursday night.

Those having passes were not allowed to enter Punjab territory. Whereas heavy and light vehicle carrying essential commodities were allowed to go.

On the other side, the Haryana police on duty on the check barrier allowed the vehicles to enter Haryana but it was announced that entry of vehicles would not be allowed from Saturday.

The Punjab police didn’t allow the entry of vehicles coming from Delhi side on National Highway Delhi-Amritsar at the Shambhu check barrier last night.

Traffic jam started as no vehicle was allowed to enter
Punjab. Despite people having proper passes and permission, no one was allowed.

People from Delhi and Himachal Pradesh were also not allowed and were asked to return.

Many people who were held up made requests that their families with children were accompanying them and should be allowed on compassionate grounds but they were denied permission and had to return back.

The vehicles carrying essential commodities including medicines were not stopped and allowed to go to Punjab.

Punjab police officials on duty said that there were strict orders from the government not to allow entry of vehicles except those loaded with essential commodities.

But the scene across the border on Haryana side was quite different to Punjab side.

The police had allowed the vehicles to go to Delhi side.

Sub Inspector Kultaran Singh said that they had allowed vehicles to enter Haryana but the entry would be banned from Saturday.

He said that those persons working in Punjab should make arrangements to stay there till the lockdown.
