Punjab's missing schoolgirl gang-raped and murdered

Ludhiana, Sept 4 (IBNS) The Punjab schoolgirl whose body was retrieved from a canal on Thursday after she went missing for a day has allegedly been gang-raped and murdered, reports say.

Doctors have confirmed rape.

The girl was allegedly kidnapped on her way home from school in the Shimlapuri area on Wednesday. According to police, she  was then  taken to a house where she was allegedly gang-raped.

There were at least 17 wounds all over her body. Police say a deep cut on her head indicates that she was hit with a sharp weapon.

The girl's relatives and others have been protesting since Thursday.
