Punjab's twin IED blasts : Two more children die, toll rises to 5

Ludhiana, Feb 1 (IBNS) : The toll in Tuesday's twin IED blast in Punjab rose to five as two children succumbed to their injuries in hospital on Wednesday, reports said.

Japsimran Singh (14) and Ritamdip Singh (9) were grievously injured  in the high-intensity twin explosions that occurred during a political road show at Maur in Bathinda district on Tuesday night.

Ten critically injured people are still undergoing treatment at different hospitals in Bathinda.

A team of forensic and explosive experts have reached Maur.

Three people, including a Congress worker, were killed when the blasts took place during the  road show  by Congress candidate Harminder Singh Jassi.

The three people who died on Tuesdah night are :  Harpal Singh, Jassi’s personal assistant Ashok Kumar, a beggar; and his 10-year-old daughter, Barkha.

An initial police investigation suggested that the twin IED planted in an abandoned car and a scooter  were detonated  through remote control.
