Kochi, Aug 11 (IBNS): The rainfall in Kerala subsided on Saturday giving thousands of people relief, media reports said.

At least 27 people have lost their lives in the state so far.

Nearly 54,000 people are left homeless as incessant rains flooded almost half of Kerala.

The water level at the Idukki Reservoir has been reported at 2,401 feet.

In a bid to give some relief to the people of the flood-hit state, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Saturday announced ex-gratia payment of Rs four lakh each to the kin of those who lost their lives in the deluge.

Many parts of northern Kerala have been completely isolated by landslides and floods due to heavy rains.

The Army, Navy, Air Force and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been conducting evacuation and relief operations in the flood affected areas.
