Rajasthan municipal polls: Congress wins 620 seats, BJP bags 548
Jaipur/IBNS: The ruling Congress won 620 seats as opposed to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s 548 in the municipal elections of desert state Rajasthan.
The results of the 50 urban local bodies were declared on Sunday.
Of the total 1,775 ward councillor posts, independent candidates bagged 595 seats.
Seven candidates from Mayawati's Bahujan Samaj Party, four from Left and one from Rashtriya Loktantrik Party (RLP) have also won in 12 districts of Rajasthan.
The municipal polls were held in the backdrop of feud within the Congress with its two senior leaders, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and his deputy Sachin Pilot, openly displaying their disagreements.
Though the differences were resolved and Gehlot was successful in keeping the flock together, Pilot had by then lost his Deputy CM's post.
