Lucknow, Apr 16 (IBNS): Union Home Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) veteran Rajnath Singh filed his nomination from Uttar Pradesh's Lucknow for the Lok Sabha Elections 2019 on Tuesday.

Singh filed his nomination following a massive roadshow in Lucknow, the capital city of Uttar Pradesh.

However, the Opposition is yet to name its candidate against the BJP leader.

The Lucknow seat was earlier contested by former Prime Minister late Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Singh had contested from Lucknow and also won the seat in 2014.

The Home Minister was supposed to be accompanied by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and BJP leader, Yogi Adityanath, but he could not as he has been barred from political campaigns for 72 hours by the Election Commission for giving hate speech.

In Uttar Pradesh, the BJP is facing a challenge as arch-rivals Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party have formed an alliance to contest the polls.

In 2014 General Elections, the BJP had swept the northern state by winning 71 seats.
