Rajnath Singh reviews working of Narcotics Control Bureau
New Delhi, Sept 17 (IBNS): Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh reviewed the working of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in a meeting, here on Thursday.
The Minister of State for Home Affairs, Shri Haribhai Parathibhai Chaudhary, senior officers of MHA and NCB were in attendance.
In a presentation from the NCB, the Home Minister was informed about the drug scenario in India and drug issues for the country.
Singh was also apprised about the trafficking of drugs from South West Asia through the land and maritime routes. The issue of Opium, Cannabis/Hashish, Ephedrine/Pseudoephedrine, Synthetic Drugs and New Psychoactive Substances (NPS) were also discussed in detail.
Singh reviewed the counter-strategies against drugs which included enforcement (supply reduction), demand reduction and rehabilitation of drug addicts. The ongoing national and international operations to check the drug menace, strengthening and upgradation of intelligence network, upgradation of surveillance equipment and future requirements such as the setting up of training academy and drug labs and museums were also reviewed.
The Union Home Minister directed the NCB and the MHA to move all pending proposals at the earliest so that the NCB functions as one of the premier organisation to check the flow of narcotics in the country. He also mentioned that the youth should be protected from this menace which is creating an alarming concern in some parts of the country.
