Rajnath Singh upset over Md Salim's comments
Salim who stated that Singh, in the wake of the BJP's victory in the 2014 elections had claimed Narendra Modi as the first Hindu ruler in 800 years after Prithviraj Chauhan, was challenged by the Home Minister to either prove his statement or withdraw it.
The Left minister took out an old issue of the Outlook magazine and read out a line pertaining to the issue. This was seen as a foul-play by Singh, as it was the late Ashok Singhal, the former VHP leader who had said so.
A senior BJP leader was quoted by Firstpost as saying, "It had not come to our notice so far, at least the Home minister was not aware of publication any such statement attributed to him. The magazine and the writer concerned will have to do a lot of explaining. Do you imagine if he had actually said so this would have become big national and even international headline? It could not have been noticed only by the writer in Outlook magazine."
The leader also said that the magazine will be served a rebuttal and a notice by either the Home Minister or other senior members of the BJP.
Post the incident, Outlook took to twitter to apologise for the 'unintentional' mistake.
"It is not our intention to denigrate the home minister or Parliament. Outlook sincerely regrets the embarrassment caused to Mr. Rajnath Singh and to Mr. Mohammad Salim," the magazine posted a message
