Ready to join Left at national level to fight communalism: Mamata
New Delhi, Nov 18 (IBNS): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday said she is ready to join a coalition even with her arch rival, the Left Front, if the Congress party takes the initiative to form the group at the national level.
"I am ready to be part of a national platform which includes the Left to fight communalism. This is not the same as an alliance in West Bengal, we will fight alone there," Banerjee told NDTV channel.
She said such a coalition can provide a platform to fight communalism.
Banerjee was present at a conference to commemorate the 125th birth anniversary of India's first Prime Minister and Congressman Jawaharlal Nehru in the national capital on Monday.
The event was organised by the Congress, and the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was not invited.
"I feel Congress should take the lead. If you don't take the lead, sometimes, other forces fill that space," she told the channel.
Banerjee was a part of the Congress-led coalition government at the Centre till 2012.
She exited the coalition over economic reforms which according to her was "anti-people."
