Brisbane, Nov 15 (IBNS): Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi ahead of the G-20 summit commencement in Brisbane here said economic reform should be free from political pressure and not conducted by stealth.

"Reform is bound to face resistance," said Modi, adding that it must be insulated from political pressures.

"Reform has to be driven by the people....cannot be by stealth," he said at  a Retreat in Brisbane.

"Reform must be People-centric & People-driven. Reforms should  lead to simplification of processes......& processes of governance must be reformed," said Modi.

He said reform is a continuous multi-stage process and it must be institutionalized.

"Globally, reforms are handicapped with perception of being govt programs, a burden on the people, this needs to change," he said at the Retreat hosted by Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott at the Queensland Parliament House.

The G-20 summit, a gathering of 20 of the world's biggest developed and emerging economies, begins on Saturday here.

According to media reports, Modi is expected to raise the issue of global cooperation against black money.
