Removal of Article 370 will result in end of terrorism in Kashmir: Amit Shah

New Delhi, Aug 12 (IBNS): Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday said he feels that abrogation of Article 370 was needed as it will end terrorism trouble in Jammu and Kashmir.

Speaking at an event, Shah said: "I was firm that Article 370 is needed to be removed."

"After scrapping Article 370, terrorism will end in Kashmir and it will move to the path of development," he said.

Jammu and Kashmir completed a week on Monday since the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government made major announcements by abrogating Articles 370 and 35A that had granted special power to the former state.

The government bifurcated Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories, Jammu and Kashmir with an assembly and Ladakh without an assembly.

Article 35A of the Indian Constitution allowed the Jammu and Kashmir state's legislature to define “permanent residents” of the state and also provided special rights and privileges to those permanent residents.

Article 370 allowed Jammu and Kashmir to have its own constitution, flag and right to handle its own laws except on matters that impact national security.
