Reopen factory or return land, farmers protest against Rahul Gandhi

Amethi, Jan 24 (IBNS): Farmers who had given away their land for a now-closed cycle factory here after being promised jobs protested against Amethi MP and Congress president Rahul Gandhi here on Wednesday.

Reports said the land was acquired in 1984 and when the Samrat Cycle factory began functioning, some farmers were given jobs. The factory, however, was closed in 1988-89 and in 2010-11, the owners auctioned the land which was then acquired by Rajiv Gandhi Mahila Trust.

The farmers had hoped the factory would restart but when it didn't ,they started their protest against the Congress party.

"Rahul Gandhi had promised us the factory would start again. It has not. He seems to have no intention of returning our land," The Times of India quoted Sanjay Singh, a protester, as saying,
