Rhino poacher injured in police firing while he tried to escape police custody in Assam’s Biswanath

Guwahati: One rhino poacher was injured in police firing while he tried to escape police custody in Assam’s Biswanath district.

The injured poacher was identified as Zakir Hussain alias Zagir.

Navin Singh, Superintendent of Police (SP) of Biswanath district said that, police arrested the rhino poacher yesterday and when he was being taken to reveal the place where he had hidden illegal weapons, he tried to escape police custody.

“The incident occurred last night. When he tried to escape police custody and police team asked him to stop, but didn’t response it and later police personnel shot at his leg. He was admitted at Tezpur Medical College and Hospital,” Navin Singh said.

According to the reports, the rhino poacher is the associate of deceased poacher Nalkur.
