Right-wing leader who shot Mahatma Gandhi's effigy arrested

Aligarh, Feb 6 (IBNS): Right-wing leader, Pooja Shakun Pandey, who had shot Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi's effigy on Jan 30, was arrested from Aligarh on Tuesday, media reports said.

Pandey, who belongs to Hindu Mahasabha, was seen shooting the effigy on the death anniversary of Mahatma at a function held by Hindu Mahasabha at Aligarh last month.

The statue of Nathuram Godse, who had killed Mahatma, was also garlanded and sweets were distributed.

Along with Pandey, who was missing since the incident took place, her husband Ashok has also been taken into custody.

The Uttar Pradesh police registered cases against 12 people in connection with the incident of shooting the effigy.

Mahatma was the theme of this year's Republic Day Parade.

The parade featured 22 tableaux which paid tribute to the Father of the Nation.
