Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, Sep 8 (UNI) Russia will deliver S-400 air defense systems to India within 18-19 months Russian Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Borisov said on Sunday.

"The advance payment has been received and everything will be delivered in strict accordance with the schedule, within about 18-19 months," Russian news agency Sputnik quoted Mr Borisov saying in the air of Rossiya 1 broadcaster.

Moscow and New Delhi concluded in October 2018 the contract on the deliveries of the S-400 missile systems to India worth over $5 billion.

The S-400 Triumph is an anti-aircraft weapon system developed in the 1990s by Russia's Almaz Central Design Bureau as an upgrade of the S-300 family.

It has been in service with the Russian Armed Forces since 2007. In 2017 the S-400 was described by The Economist as "one of the best air-defence systems currently made".
