Sahara case: Justice Kehar recuses from hearing
New Delhi, May 15 (IBNS): In a surprising move, one of the two judges hearing the high profile Sahara case has recused himself from it following which a new bench has been set up for the trial.
According to reports, Justice JS Kehar did not give any reason for the recusal, which was received before May 7.
Justice Kehar wrote to the Chief Justice of India offering to opt out of the matter.
This comes days after Justice KS Radhakrishnan, who was hearing the case with Kehar, alleged of "pressure" in the case.
Justice Radhakrishnan, who is retiring from the office, reportedly said at a function that there are matters pending with the court, but the pressure and tension that is being exerted on both of them in connection with the case "is unimaginable."
The Supreme Court on May 6 once again rejected a writ petition filed by jailed Sahara Group Subrata Roy challenging his detention.
With this, Roy was ordered to stay in jail for the time being.
Earlier, Roy's lawyers filed the writ petition said his client is unwell as he is suffering from the summer heat.
Justice Radhakrishnan and Justice Kehar have dismissed several pleas for release by Subrata Roy.
Roy is in jail since Mar 4 after his company failed to repay the money which it owes to its investors.
