Saharanpur communal clash: Curfew remains in force
Saharanpur, July 27 (IBNS): Curfew and shoot-at-sight orders remained in force on Sunday as the tensed situation prevailed in Uttar Pradesh's Saharanpur where three people died so far in communal clashes between Sikhs and Muslims over a religious property.
At least 20 arrests have been made so far.
At least three have died and nearly a score sustained injuries in clashes and arson between two groups- Sikhs and Muslims- in Saharanpur district early on Saturday.
Curfew was imposed following the clash that broke out between the two groups over a plot of Gurudwara on Saturday, police said.
According sources, the situation went out of control as members from both the communities started pelting stones at each other and set several shops and vehicles on fire.
Heavy contingent of police force, led by senior officials, reached the spot to bring the situation under control. The police used tear gas shells to quell the irate mob from both the sides. Later, Section 144 had been imposed in the city.
Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) and the Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel were deployed.
