Kolkata, Jan 12 (IBNS) The much awaited new Sainik Aramgah at Platform No. 17 of Howrah Station has been dedicated to the service of the Armed Forces by Lt Gen Raman Dhawan, GOC Bengal Area.

The Sainik Aramgah, Howrah was raised on November 19, 1965 at Platform No. 16 during the peak of 1965 INDO-PAK war.

With proliferation in op commitment in North-Eastern Sector there has been an enhanced troop movement and need for larger space for Sainik Aramgah was being felt for quite a few years now.

Inaugurating the newly renovated Sainik Aramgah recently, Lt Gen Dhawan stated that Sainik Armgah was a fine example of coordination, cooperation and understanding between two of the finest Government organizations that is Defence and Railways.

On this occasion he acknowledged the valuable contribution of Indian Railways towards efficiency of Indian Armed Forces, be it movement of troops, units or welfare measures such as Sainik Aramgah.

"The building built by the Railways on Platform No. 17 boasts of all modern amenities including checking the PNR status and other relevant information such as availability of accommodation in trains using the touch screen information KIOSK. The building consists of two separate complexes for officers/JCOs and other ranks," read a government statement.

Considering the increase in the number of commuters the building has come as a boon for Defence commuters as it promises to address most of the space constraints.
