Salman Khan arrives court for judgement

| | May 06, 2015, at 04:57 pm
Mumbai, May 6 (IBNS) Actor Salman Khan, who faces judgement on Wednesday in connection with the 2002 hit-and-run case, reached the Mumbai sessions court in the morning, driven by a man who claims to be guilty.

The 49-year-old actor faces charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder.

If convicted, he could face up to 10 years in prison.

Additional Sessions Judge DW Deshpande will pronounce his verdict in case.

The prosecution claims it has strong evidence that Salman Khan was drunk and driving back to his home in Bandra when he lost control of the car.

The prosecution also claims that Salman fled the scene and did not inform the police as required by the law.

The actor has claimed that it was his driver Ashok Singh who was behind the wheels at the time.

Ashok Singh, Salman's driver and the only defence witness in the case, corroborated that version and told the court that the accident took place as the tyre burst and brake jammed.

Giving a statement to the media ahead of the verdict, the public prosecutor in the case said, "Have tried our best. We have tried to bring the truth and placed all facts in front of the court. In coming hours court will pronounce it's verdict."
