Sanjay Raut praises Devendra Fadnavis day after release from jail

A day after his release from jail, Sanjay Raut of Thackeray camp has praised Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who is believed to have orchestrated the coup by Eknath Shinde-faction of Shiv Sena that ousted Uddhav Thackeray as the CM in June.

According to an NDTV report, heaping praises on Fadnavis, Raut said, “There is a new government in Maharashtra, which has taken some good decisions too. We do not oppose for the sake of opposing.

"Devendra Fadnavis has taken some good decisions. I read the newspaper whenever possible (in jail). Decisions such as housing for the poor deserve praise”

He also highlighted the current government's decision to give more rights to MHADA (Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority).

“Our government had taken away those rights. I did not like that. Mr Fadnavis has done well to restore those," Raut said.

Raut said he would meet Devendra Fadnavis for some public work, the report said.

He also told reporters that he would meet PM Narendra Modia and Home Minsiter Amit Sah and apprise them about his situation.

The Sena leader, who is known to be close to Uddhav Thackeray, said he welcomes Devendra Fadnavis's statement that political bitterness should be reduced.

He said he would also meet with Sharad Pawar, chief of Team Thackeray's ally NCP.

“I thought people would forget me in three months. But I got a lot of calls since my release yesterday. Uddhav ji was regularly in touch with me. Pawar sahib also spoke to me on the phone,” Raut was quoted as saying by NDTV.

Raut said his release would send a message across the country when asked about the court ruling that said his arrest was wrong as the Enforcement Directorate could not present any evidence of his involvement in the housing scam in which he has been accused.

Refusing to comment on ED's role, he also denied spaeking about who he thinks are the architects of the controversy.

“In my heart I hold no grudge against anyone ever. My family suffered a lot. But such is life. We are in politics,” he added while refusing to “blame the system as a whole,” according to the report.

“I do not blame any central probe agency either. When they get a chance to do good things, they should,” he said.

According to the report, later when he reached Uddhav Thackeray's home, Raut made a stern comment: "The question is, are probe agencies pets of the for state and central governments? There is an argument for closing down the ED altogether."

About his earlier comments that his arrest was “on orders from Delhi", he said, “No one should be arrested on false charges; it's not just about me.”
