Sanjay Singh to take oath as Rajya Sabha member tomorrow

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court has granted permission to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Sanjay Singh to take oath as a Rajya Sabha member on Tuesday.

The court has directed the jail authorities to take Sanjay Singh to Parliament for oath-taking on Tuesday.

Singh was elected as a Rajya Sabha member for the second time in January but could not take the oath as the court did not grant him permission to do so, citing the pending case in the Privileges Committee.

The AAP leader is currently in judicial custody after being detained by the Enforcement Directorate in a money laundering case related to the now-scrapped Delhi excise policy case.

A CBI case served as the basis for the ED's initial investigation. The ED is looking into the purported scam's money laundering component.

In the CBI case, it is claimed that irregularities were made when changing the excise policy to give licence holders unfair advantages; the licence fee was lowered or waived, and the L-1 license—which is granted for the wholesale supply of Indian liquor—was extended without the consent of the relevant authority.
