SC asks for out-of-court settlement for Ayodhya Ram Temple dispute
Referring to the case, Chief Justice of India JS Kehar said: "It is an issue of sentiment and religion. First sit together and sort out. Both sides employ moderators and hold meetings."
The Supreme Court said that they would only intervene if the parties fail to settle the dispute through discussions.
The apex court, however, freezed the verdict of Allahabad High Court given in 2010 which allowed Hindus to build the temple in the disputed place.
The construction of Ram Temple was one of the promises made by Bharatiya Janata Party in their election manifestos of the recently concluded assembly election in UP.
Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath, who during election campaigns said that abiding by the Constitution, BJP government if voted to power would construct the temple, welcomed the suggestions given by CJI.
"The state government will provide all support to resolve the dispute," the UP CM said.
