School principal arrested for sacrilege incident in Punjab

Phagwara/UNI: A school principal was arrested here on the charges of hurting religious sentiments, police said on Thursday.

According to police, a villager named Jasbir Singh filed a complaint against a private school principal for burning and throwing some pages of the 'Holy Book' Gutka Sahib.

As per the preliminary investigations, it came to the notice that the said accused was running a private school in village Apra and her husband was doing a job in Nawanshahr so she was shifting her house from village Chhokrran to Banga to facilitate themselves.

SP Wahia said that during shifting process, the accused woman might threw waste and old papers including few pages of 'Holy Book' Gutka Sahib.

SHO Goraya Kewal Singh along with members of Gurdwara Committee on Thursday went to Shri Goindwal Sahib with burnt pages to immerse them.

SHO Phillaur Sukha Singh said the accused woman was produced before Judicial Magistrate Phillaur who sent her in police remand for one day for further investigation.
