Second and final phase of polling for 14 Lok Sabha seats tomorrow in Karnataka

Bengaluru, Apr 22 (UNI): Stage is all set for the second and final phase of polling for remaining 14 Lok Sabha seats in Karnataka on April 23. The first phase Polling for the 14 Lok Sabha seats were held succesfully on April 18.

More than 2.43 crore voters, including 1.22 Crore Male, 1.20 Crore female and 2022 voters will decide political fortunes of 237 candidates in the fray.

Over 28,022 Polling booths were set up in the 14 Lok Sabha constituencies and heavy bandobust was made for for smooth and incident free polling.

The Constituencies, which goes to poll tomorrow, included Bidar, Kalaburagi, Raichur, Ballari, Koppal, Chikkodi, Belagavi, Uttara Kannada, Dharwad, Haveri, Davanagere, Shivamogga, Vijayapura and Bagalakote.

Prominent candidates, who are in the fray are include, Congress leader in Lok Sabha M Mallikarjuna Kharge, Union Ministers Ramesh Jigajinagi, Anantha Kumara Hegade, Shivakumara Udasi, Prahlad Joshi, P C Gaddigoudar, G M Siddeshwar, Prakash Hukkeri, Bhagawant Khuba, Suresh Angadi, B V Nayak, KPCC Working President Eshwar Khandre, B Y Raghavendra, son of former Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa, who is also BJP State President and others.

Though there are a large number of Independent candidates and BSP of Mayawati are also in the fray, the main battle is between BJP and candidates of ruling Congress-JD(S) coalition.

Women candidates Veena Kashappannavar (Bagalkot) and Sunita Chawan (Vijayapura) fielded by Coalition parties are testing their political fortune by contesting against the Saffron party Candidates and sitting Lok Sabha members P C Gaddigoudar and Ramesh Jiganajinagi, respectively.

Among the 14 Lok Sabha seats, which goes to poll on Tuesday, the BJP has fielded all its 11 sitting MPs and allowed them to seek re-elections in the 17th Lok Sabha elections.

Barring stray incidents of clashes between Congress and the JD(S) supporters in Mandya Lok Sabha seat, the elections were held peacefully in the 14 other Lok Sabha seats in Karnataka on April-18, in which about 68.38 per cent of polling was recorded.
