Security forces arrest six USRA cadres and recover huge cache of arms-ammu in Manipur

Guwahati, Aug 27 (IBNS): Security forces have arrested six active cadres of United Socialist Revolutionary Army (USRA) and recovered huge cache of arms and ammunition from them in Manipur’s Imphal East district on Monday evening.

According to the reports, based on intelligence input, a combined team of Imphal East district police Commando and Assam Rifles launched an operation in K Shorongphai village near Andro Torongthel.

“After receiving a reliable information about the presence of some armed cadres of the outfit at K Shorongphai, threatening and disturbing peace and normalcy of the life of the common people of the area the operation was conducted,” a top official of Imphal East district police said.

In the operation, security personnel arrested six cadres of USRA and recovered huge cache of arms and ammunition in possession from them.

The arrested cadres were identified as Lenminthang Baite alias Earnesto, S Jamal Vaiphei, Jamkhothang Vaiphei, Mangku Haokip, Momon Baite and Thangrijoy Baite.

Two active cadres of the outfit had managed to escape by taking advantage of forest of the area.

Security personnel had recovered one AK series HK Rifle with two numbers of magazines, 36 numbers of live rounds of HK Rifle, a 9 mm pistol with one magazine, four live rounds of 9mm pistol, 19 numbers of M16 rifle ammunition, one double barrel gun with 20 live rounds, one Chinese made hand grenade, military jungle boot and camouflage fighting dresses in possession from them and also seized a smoke grey Maruti Swift car, bearing the registration number AS-01 MA-8150.
