Srinagar, Aug 6 (UNI) Necessary security arrangements have been put in place to ensure peace and security in Jammu and Kashmir, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Northern Command, Lt Gen Ranbir Singh said a day after the government scrapped Article 370, which granted special status to the state.

Prohibitory orders under Section 144 CrPC remained in force in most parts of Jammu and Kashmir on the second successive day, with heavy deployment of forces.

Chairing a meeting of the Core Group of Intelligence and Security agencies in Srinagar, Lt Gen Singh reviewed the operational readiness to meet any contingency that could adversely impact the security situation.

He said security forces were suitably deployed to guard important vulnerable points/ areas. They are prepared for crowd control and conducting effective counter terrorist operations.

Giving details of security in the hinterland, it was highlighted that counter terrorism and law and order grids had been strengthened.

The Army Commander highlighted that during the past few days, Pakistan has intensified its efforts at increasing strength of terrorists in launch pads along the Line of Control, initiating ceasefire violations, pushing infiltrators across the LoC, calibrating terrorist actions in the hinterland as also using the social media to launch a disinformation campaign in J&K.

He urged the people not to fall prey to Pakistan's propaganda and asked them not to spread rumours as well as dissuade their near and dear ones from rumour mongering.

In Jammu region, all private and government schools remained closed for the second day on Tuesday.

All examinations at different schools and University of Jammu have also been postponed till further orders.

Deputy Commissioners of different districts, including Jammu, Kathua, Samba, Poonch, Doda, Rajouri, Udhampur, said mobile Internet has also been snapped in the region and restrictions imposed as a "precautionary measure."
