Self-appointed vigilantes are a threat to liberty: Sonia Gandhi

New Delhi, Aug 8 (IBNS): Congress vice president Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday said "self-appointed vigilantes" are threat to liberty and enemy of pluralism and diversity.

"Anguished by assault on freedom. Self appointed vigilantes are a threat to liberty and enemy of pluralism and diversity," Gandhi said.

She said her Congress must defend liberty and freedom of individual and institutions.

The Congress supremo said: "Congress must always defend the liberty & freedom of individual and institutions."

Gandhi was speaking at the Congress Working Committee meeting here on the 75th anniversary of the Quit India Movement.

Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh also attended the event.

He said he was concerned about the future of youth and peasantry as multiple problems persisted in the society post demonetisation and implementation of GST.

Singh said: "I am deeply concerned about India's youth & peasantry as multiple problems persist post demonetisation and GST."
