Several feared dead as boat carrying 40 people capsizes in Godavari river

Hyderabad, May 15 (IBNS): Several people are missing and many are feared dead as a boat carrying 40 people capsized during inclement weather in Andhra Pradesh’s East Godavari district on Tuesday evening, media reports said.

The district authorities reached the accident site along with National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams to conduct rescue operations.

"While 10 passengers, including two women, swam to the riverbank, the remaining passengers are feared drowned and their whereabouts were not known till last reports came in, The Hindustan Times reported.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has condoled the loss of lives due to capsizing of the boat.

“Anguished by the capsizing of a boat in Andhra Pradesh’s East Godavari district. Condolences to the bereaved families. I pray for the safety of those missing ", the Prime Minister said.
