Shashi Tharoor apologises for calling Arvind Kejriwal 'eunuch' over CAA inaction

NewDelhi/IBNS: Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has issued an apology for calling Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal a "eunuch" for not taking any proper action at a time violence had erupted over Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019, in the national capital.

In an interview with CNN News 18, Tharoor had said, "He has made statements deploring the CAA, NRC saying why is it necessary, the government should withdraw it but he has not taken any tangible action. He has not even shown the human compassion one expects from a Chief Minister towards the victims of violence in his own state....."

"Mr. Kejriwal really wants power without responsibility, which we all know has been the prerogative of eunuchs for ages." (sic)

Following criticism on social media amid silence from the LGBTQ group, Tharoor on Tuesday tweeted, "Apologies to those who found my quote about "power without responsibility" offensive. It's an old line from British politics, going back to Kipling & PrimeMinister Stanley Baldwin, &most recently used by Tom Stoppard. I recognize that its use today was inappropriate &withdraw it.

The protests against the CAA at Jamia Millia University had turned violent in December last year following which police had allegedly assaulted the students of the university.

In a recent incident, a huge of number of masked men had entered the campus, girls' hostel of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) and assaulted the students and a professor while the students were protesting against the fee-hike in the university.
