Shatrughan Sinha's wife Poonam Sinha files nomination from Lucknow

Lucknow, Apr 18 (IBNS): Actor-turned politician Shatrughan Sinha's wife Poonam Sinha filed her nomination as a Samajwadi Party (SP) candidate from Lucknow constituency of Uttar Pradesh for the Lok Sabha polls on Thursday.

Couple of days ago, Poonam joined the SP. She will face Union Minister and BJP veteran Rajnath Singh in the Lucknow battle.

Interestingly, Shatrughan, an outgoing MP, has recently left Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and joined Congress. He is also fighting the Lok Sabha polls from Bihar's Patna Sahib in Congress' ticket.

Shatrughan was vocal against BJP even being the saffron party member. The actor-turned politician switched sides after he was denied a ticket for the Lok Sabha polls.

On Apr 16, Rajnath Singh held a massive roadshow in Lucknow before filing his nomination.

The Lucknow seat was earlier contested by former Prime Minister late Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Singh had contested from Lucknow and also won the seat in 2014.

In Uttar Pradesh, the BJP is facing a challenge as arch-rivals SP and Bahujan Samaj Party have formed an alliance to contest the polls.

In 2014 General Elections, the BJP had swept the northern state by winning 71 seats.
