Shimla: Driver, two children killed as HRTC school bus plunges into gorge

Shimla, Jul 1 (UNI) Two school children and a bus driver were killed while six others sustained injuries when their bus skidded off the road and fell into a 200 feet deep gorge near lower Khalini, here on Monday.

According to the police, a Himachal Pradesh Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) bus which plunged into a deep gorge at around 0830 hrs was carrying around eight children.

The bus driver who was killed on the spot is yet to be identified while injured have been rushed to the Indira Gandhi Medical College, Shimla.

The two school children, both girls, succumbed to their injuries on the way to hospital. The condition of the injured is said to be critical.

The deceased have been identified as Manya (13) daughter of Bisham Singh resident of Bisham Niwas Lower Khalini, Mehal(13) alias Sharist Panta daughter of Brijmohan resident of Bhagwati Nagar Jhanjhardi lower Khalini and Naresh Kumar (Driver).

According to sources the condition of ill fated HRTC bus was not good as it belonged to the oldest fleet still plying on many routes.

This is the second major accident in past 10 days as on June 22, 45 people were killed when their bus fell into a 500 metre deep gorge at Banjar in Kullu district.
