Somnath Bharti an embarrassment for party : Arvind Kejriwal
New Delhi, Sept 23 (IBNS) Distancing the Aam Aadmi Party from Somnath Bharti, who is wanted for charges including attempt to murder, party chief Arvind Kejriwal has said the former minister is becoming an embarrassment for the party.
"Somnath shud surrender. Why is he running away? Why is he so scared of gng to jail? Now he is becoming embarasment for party n his family," Kejriwal tweeted on Wednesday morning.
"He shud cooperate with police," Kejriwal said.
Bharti has been missing since the Delhi High Court rejected on Tuesday his plea for anticipatory bail in connection with an attempt to murder case filed by his wife Lipika Mitra.
The court noted that past cases showed that the lawmaker was "not only violent and outrageous at home but also before the public at large."
Lipika Mitra, whom Mr Bharti married in 2010, has accused him of beating and torturing her. She has alleged that he once tried to strangle her and unleashed his dog on her.
The police have been camping outside Mr Bharti's home since yesterday. His brother Loknath Bharti and private secretary were questioned.
