South Indian music exponent M Balamuralikrishna passes away

Chennai, Nov 22 (IBNS): Veteran Carnatic musician Dr M Balamuralikrishna died at his residence in Chennai on Tuesday.

He was 86.

According to reports, Balamuralikrishna was not well for the past few days.

Born in Sankaraguptam, East Godavari District in Andhra Pradesh, Balamuralikrishna started singing at the age of six.

Besides being a Carnatic vocalist, he was a multi-instrumentalist, playback singer, composer and actor.

He was awarded the Padma Vibhushan for his contribution towards Indian Art.

He was made Chevalier of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French Government in 2005.
