Speaker Birla's gestures to first timer MPs, women members, earn praise
New Delhi, July 3 (UNI): Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla's gestures shown to first timer MPs and especially women new members allowing them to speak on various issues has earned applause from cross section of the House.
On Wednesday, Speaker Mr Birla said he wants all first-time women members of the House to share their views in the House during the ongoing session.
He made these remarks during the Zero Hour as he allowed several women members.
"A number of members want to speak, but I would like new women members to speak. There are 46 of them in the House," Speaker said.
At one point Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Arjun Ram Meghawal said out of 78 women members in the 17th Lok Sabha, 46 of them are first timers.
Speaker said he is definitely in favour of giving opportunity to all members but wanted that first-time women MPs should get chance and "I am sure Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress leader Sonia Gandhi will also want this".
Mr Birla later allowed several woman MPs to speak.
His gesture earned him praise.
During the ongoing session, Congress floor leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury also lauded the Speaker for giving adequate time to first time MPs.
